Hi, everyone!

This is our second installment of our “From the Road” Fallen Earth reports, and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I am Jessica Orr, a.k.a. circatrix, the new Product Manager for Fallen Earth. I am in Austin for the 2008 Austin Game Developer Conference… and I’m stoked! Not only is this my first trade show with Fallen Earth, but I am in great company—Captain Pouches is here.

We’ve had a great time in the city. We flew in on Monday. Captain Pouches enjoyed the luxury of a window seat. He’s decided that Texas is almost big enough for his empire. Monday night was filled with fun, as we joined our friends at Heatwave for a party at the Sky Lounge, although the Captain can’t seem to hold his liquor. He did, however, enjoy cheering on Colin Dwan as he played in the Rock Band Contest (with a real disco ball and strobe lights!).

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. we were showing some Fallen Earth eye-candy on two demo stations. Many people came by to see our Lead Game Designer, Lee Hammock, show off some towns in Sector One. We got several compliments on our awesome fog, graphics improvement—and they were of course impressed that they could smack other people in game with a 2x4.

We’ve had several media, developers, and gamers stop by to take a look at some cool Icarus tools. A lot of people are psyched that we’re taking Icarus to the iPhone now http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/ne...studios/?biz=1. We showed off our Demo World (2.5 and 3D versions). Also, we stopped by to see our friends at Vivox—they have a killer booth not far from ours.
After a long day on the floor, we debated what to do last night. We decided on a place called Roy’s, which specializes in Hawaiian fusion cuisine. After much discussion about what sweetbreads really were—and Captain Pouches’ infatuation with the elaborately prepared Hawaiian martini—we were too tired to do much else. Admittedly, the molten chocolate soufflé was the best I’ve ever eaten, although the wombat kept trying to sneak into my ice cream…

Today, we are showing in booth #316 (yes, the only kickin’ booth with two stories and an upper deck) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then packing up to head home tomorrow. Captain Pouches spent some time on the upper deck, surveying the conference area and trying to determine which booths he could take by force. He’s also tried to visit several booths to get some swag, but he can’t seem to find any t-shirts in wombat size—especially ones that allow for his epaulets.

We look forward to another day of sharing our cool products with others in the industry. And maybe if we’re not too tired, we’ll take the Captain out for a good time on 6th Street after the show. He’s been known to frequent hotel bars after hours, and he says he needs to see more of the city. If you’re interested in checking out some of our updated art, stop by and see us. I've attached a picture (and more in a following post since the connection is slow). I’d love to meet you!
