View Full Version : Roleplayer Central (Mos Eisley of Fallen Earth)

If anyone remembers back in the old days of Star Wars Galaxies, the Mos Eisley cantina was THE place for roleplayers to come, kick back, have a drink or two, and socialize. Granted, Eisley was not the only place, but this is my point.
I'm all for doing quests and exploring, but one can only do this for so long. We need a central Roleplay hangout. A place we can all designate to drop by when were tired from exploring, questing, crafting, or whatever. We need to designate a town (preferably not of high population), and possibly an Inn or a bar.
Let's do it people!

Well, the people of FERP (www.fallenearthroleplayers.com) have been using the Bar and Inn in Oilville for RP purposes. IC, we've been referring to the Triage and Tap or whatever as The Well. Sarah Gunsmith is generally the bartender there (but obviously she's not always there).
There's a suggestion or S1 at least. I don't really know S2 or S3 yet, so I can't say.

Oilville was extremely crowded/cramped when I was there yesterday. I mean.. it was pretty awful. Horses just about replaced the ground textures.
I'll go check it out though!
Even today SWG still has a rather healthy Mos Eisley population, when I tried it on Bria. I made several very large fireworks shows and many people enjoyed it. Will be nice to see what locale becomes the cornerstone of FE.

Come to the Crossroad in Embry. Me and my clan "Le Cartel" are often hanging out there from 8PM (GMT+2) (We are a french speaking clan but we are also rp'ing with english speaking people. :) )

Good to know there are some "hubs" forming. It's good to have more than one, or people can starting making unwarranted claims that one bar is "hogging" the rp (yes, I've seen it happen).
I see a lot of folks asking about RP on the newbie chat channel, where I myself am stuck for a while until I finish my starter-town circuit. Some of them are asking why people don't rp in the starter zones, but I think the answer is pretty obvious - aside from the fact that everyone under level 5 looks about the same and has the same gear. >_>
Others are "waiting" on a future RP server, but I believe the devs aren't planning on divvying servers up that way. The creators are pretty pro-RP to begin with - unlike with most MMO's where RP servers feel as if they are added simply to shut us up (we're not the money-making demographic).

Sounds like what commonly happens on other MMO's when someone schedules the rare RP event. You get tons of rubberneckers and it lags everyone out. Unfortunately it can scare some people away who mistakenly think that RP centers are just going to be spam-fests.

For me, roleplaying is not just chating in a bar. I enjoy much more to go adventuring with people in a roleplay way (with a scenario or simply improvised).

That's why it's called a "hub". It's a place to meet other roleplayers and characters, pick up some gossip and drama, etc. There are some types who are going to spend most of their time around the hubs, while others use them as stopping points between adventures.
If you reply only on "field" rp though, it dilutes your chances of actually finding it considerably.

Very cool. Unfortunately, I am still in my 'awakening' stage of being a wastelander,... just learning to stand on his own, helping the Enforcers do their dirty work for a few measily blues,.... You know. :p I will definately check this hub out when I get a chance.
Starsider SWG RPer here. :)

I haven't gotten to any of the "hubs" yet myself. But 2/3 times I've started rp'ing with friends just out in starter towns, someone's come up and joined in. Which kind of amazed me. :-)

Will be sure to come have a look at the hubs..
I tend to rp whereever I am.. so if I'm in the starter town you can be sure I'll rp there to.. as I believe rp is where you make it.
But yes as a Pre-CE Elder of Galaxies I played a Master Dancer in ME just to meet and greet people.. There were many great interactions on Bria..
Not so great on the FPS scene but I certainly hope there is more rp than some other recently released MMO's.. am really looking forward to the game once I get it downloaded and all.

Embry may be a lag fest in parts, but there are several nifty areas out of the way that would be good for RP sessions. There's a neighborhood slightly off the beaten path that has a bar with pool tables, several abandoned large houses, etc. And we mustn't forget that "Kook Alley" has a vacant building, for any of your crazy cult needs.
I tend to be in high favor of using Section 1 towns that aren't too far from starter zones, so people can occasionally play low-level alts. We kind of lack the ability to teleport or summon folks around, so transportation ease is important.

Are RP'ers congregating in Embry or Oilville these days? Or a mix of both. I went to Embry last night after the bike rally hoping to catch some folks still around but it was pretty late.

We need an RP section that doesn't have shops, quest givers or other game content to keep the non-RPers out for sake of Lag issues. Any of those towns are killer with all the quests and shop, people hanging around crafting.. heck ever go to Jita in Eve Online.....
An RP center and a player economy center separately located but not to far apart would be ideal, but economy aside RPing is something we don't need game mechanic modifications to get going, that's on all us.

Stage some events first to get people in contact with each other, and hopefully you'll start to develop a network.
Also, go to a spot that isn't TOO crowded/spammy, but does get traffic, and just start rp'ing in the open. Someone usually joins in. you just have to have a little patience, and don't expect it to be 'glamorous' deep RP. Folks gotta get to know each other before the community develops... and yes... it does TAKE SOME WORK, because the concept of "organizing" roleplayers/creative minds is akin to herding cats.

I've been to both crossroads looking all over and to the Triage and Tap... in vain i'm afraid since i could not find any RP at all, the triage and tap was even completely empty, even sat and waited for someone to show up for a while. I was fooled for a minute by two NPC's to think there were some RP close to me.. until i realised they said the same thing over and over again. tis sad.

I've only had a few experiences of RP outside of clan chat in FE but today when I logged in in Old Kingman I was putting the dune buggy parts i crafted while I was logged out in my vault and I saw in local chat 2 members of the lotus arguing over how killing was a thrill... i decided to go introduce them to my psychotic old hitman persona and we had some great dialog for about 20 minutes
also during the first week of early access my clan was having an rp event with about 8 of us in embry and a couple fellas came into the building and joined us... while one other person was doing the cabbage patch naked outside of the window... dunno if he was being a jackass or RPing a weird stalker guy

We're going to need a hub in every sector, it's kind of the sad truth. The reason being is travel time. I do agree there should be a hub in the lower level areas so that low level characters and alts can get some RP in, but you have to keep in mind there are higher level people as well. Sure, the higher level characters have faster vehicles, but it still takes 75-90 minutes to drive from Black Hill in Sector 3 to Embry Crossroads in Sector 1 going cross country most of the way on a motorcycle. That's a pretty lengthy trip.
With how big this game world is there's going to be no way of getting around having to have multiple RP hubs. It's just too time intensive to travel between sectors that freely.

Personally, I think New Flagstaff would make a pretty nice place. It's in S2, neutral, really spread out, and there are a lot of empty buildings. There's a bar on the southern part of town that's pretty cool too (though there are a couple questgivers in there =( ) and a gas station outside. Perfect place for meeting up, I think.

One problem with it being in S2 is that lower levels won't be able to get up there. While I do understand, and to a certain degree enjoy, the long distance and travel times in the game, I do feel there needs to be some way to get quickly from town to town or sector to sector, otherwise it could have a detrimental impact on RP.
Perhaps there could be a place in each sector that RPers decide as a gathering hub. Someplace without lag?

That's why I haven't done that much RP'ing yet, I figure most lower level folks such as myself as also mainly intent on just getting out of the starter towns.
I haven't had too hard a time finding it though, but I use the method of poking people in known RP guilds... I send them a /tell and see if they're interested.
I really wish there was a way to do a /who search on guilds... is there?

Well that's why I suggested it, as an S2 gathering place. I honestly have no idea where a good spot in S1 is. Right now, absolutely everywhere is crowded and laggy. To me, Oilville and Embry seem the absolute worst possible choices. And while Odenville is nice, it's in the far corner of the sector, which is a total pain even if you're already in S1. Almost all of the cities and towns in S1 are really compact, meaning finding some place with a bit of privacy is borderline impossible. =(

I'm still bopping about in S1, so I'll keep my eye out for a non-town gathering place that is central and safe and accessible by folks level 5 and up. I have seen just a few bits of RP, but I haven't gotten myself in, yet. Making it harder is that I probably want to go Lightbearer, and there's very few out there that support that.

Actually, This may be going slightly off thread, But I did have a really good rp with someone in midtown, we spent three hours riding around on "patrol" which jokingly became known between us as the MIdland Chicken Massacre.
Thing Is I've forgotten her name and in my rush to leave last night, we did not exchange contact details so it may never happen again...
As a new player, seeing the game in all its clory, i could imagine that any rp hubs would soon be over populated, if you can get past the annoying leet kiddies dancing naked on your table because its "fun" but im just learning the game and to fall into some rp within my first few hours was awesome.

Though it wasn't me, it might help to put your character name in your sig. Helps people recognize you by your posts!
And I really don't see that many nekkid dancers and whatnot. They seem to be the exception rather than the norm - except at the Post Apoc parties, where you sort of HOPE for some brevity. ;-)

Why not have one for each sector or perhaps on the boarder areas of S1/S2 and S2/S3?
Oasis comes to mind for the S1/S2 section, low levels can travel by most roads to there without running into too much trouble.

can we make chat channels that anyone can join in game?
I expect we can so why not make an RP chat channel so instead of swinging by Oasis or any other spot to see if anyone is around questing or RPing we can just organize in the chat.
Anyone know if custom channels are possible? like the ones in Eve Online.

Not yet. There's another thread or 2 about this out there already.
Hell, I'd even be content with a way to see who was on from other rp guilds, even if all I could do is poke individuals.
And until we get zone2zone fast travel as an option, it's going to be a rough road. [PLEASE NO ARGUMENTS FOR/AGAINST TRAVEL HERE -> HORSE BEATEN TO DEATH ALREADY]
The hilarious part? Just name a time/place and people will come, but we're still all too busy exploring and waiting for someone else to do it. :-D
